My Playlist: Favorite Albums of 2010 (So far)

Little over half way through 2010 has seen a vast array of music. My play list has been filled with some great albums this year and here are some of them. Note that some songs to listen to are located under each album listed.

Brothers - The Black Keys

The fourth album from singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney is a slight departure from there "Dirtier" sound in there previous albums. Brothers is a much cleaner album with a mix of rock and R&B but still retains the soul of The Black Keys . Songs like "Tighten Up" , "Howlin' For You" and "Next Girl" are fun catchy. While "To Afraid to love you" and "Unknown Brother" are more kin to The Black Keys sound. Also, a fantastic cover of Jerry Butler's "Never Gonna give you up" makes Brothers a must listen to album.

Sigh No More -Mumford & Sons

The debut album from Mumford & Sons formed in London, England invokes on the sounds American folk and bluegrass.. "The Cave" is an instant hit from the first chords. While songs such as "I Gave You All" ,"Little Lion Man" start slow but raises to high energy levels. Sigh no more is a well written album and Mumford & Sons are on a track for great success in the future.

Broken Bells- Broken Bells

Broken Bells is a collaboration of Brian Burton (DangerMouse) from Gnarles Barkley and lead vocalist James Mercer of The Shins. Broken Bells is a groovy album with great vocals, with splashes of Brian Burton signature experimental sounds. Songs such as "The High Road" and "The ghost hands" are fun and are examples of what great artists can do together.

Diamond Eyes - Deftones

Diamond Eyes is a triumphant album from a band that gone through some turbulent times over the past few years. From a possible break up to a serious car accident that left bass player Chi Cheng in a coma. So to see the Deftones record an album given there circumstances is an achievement . Deftones were able to create an album that is brutal at times with songs "Cmnd/Ctrl" and "Rocket Skates", to melodic "Sex Tape" and "Beauty School". Diamond Eyes is the best Deftones album since White Pony and shows that the Deftones are back on the right track.

Sea of Cowards- The Dead Weather

To put it simply Sea of Cowards is a dirty album .The Dead weather has a great mix of vocals between Jake White from The white stripes and Allison Mosshart from The kills. The sounds are grimy and has a heavy grove to it. Sea cowards last over 40 minutes in time but has a rapid pace do to the seamless transition from song to song. Great to listen to on the road.

Plastic Beach -Gorillaz

The Gorillaz once was a side project from creator Damon Albarn but has become a full blown epic of music artistry. Plastic Beach is an enjoyable ride threw the world of the Gorillaz. With pleasant cameos from Snoop Dogg in "Welcome to World of the Plastic Beach" ,"Stylo" (Bobby Womack and Mos Def) and Lou Reed in "Some Kind Of Nature" etc. Plastic Beach is an complex album and the more you listen new things come into the light.

Option Paralysis- The Dillinger Escape Plan

Organized chaos is the best way to define Option Paralysis, the ability to toe the line from chaotic to cohesive music is amazing. The Dillinger Escape Plan is an assault on the ear drums but the amount of talent and skill is an enjoyable experience. Greg Pucinato is becoming one of the best metal singers today, songs such as "Farwell 'Mona Lisa", "Windower" are indication of his vocal range. Option Paralysis is not for the faint in heart but, if you want to listen to something outside the box it can be a welcome chaotic trek.

These are just some of the albums that are on my play list. There's been a wide variety music so far this year so check these albums out also.
